Llazar Gusho, known by the pseudonym Lasgush Poradeci, was born on 27 December 1899 and remains one of the most distinguished figures of 20th-century Albanian literature. A philologist, poet, and translator, he is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Albanian literature, with a direct influence on its development, blending elements of Romanticism and Realism.

Lasgush Poradeci was born in the town of Pogradec, on the shores of Lake Ohrid, then part of the Ottoman Empire. He completed his primary education at an Albanian-language school, while his secondary education took place in Manastir (Bitola). He continued his studies in Athens at the “Lycée Léonin,” and later pursued university studies in Bucharest and Graz. During this period, he established and maintained close ties with prominent figures of Albanian literature such as Asdreni, Ernest Koliqi, Gjergj Fishta, and Mitrush Kuteli.

Poradeci is especially remembered for his poetic collections “Vallja e yjve” (The Dance of the Stars) and “Ylli i zemrës” (The Star of the Heart), which reflect the Albanian spirit, nature, erotic sentiment, and philosophical depth. His poetry is distinguished by linguistic refinement, careful formal construction, and a unique aesthetic sensitivity.

For a long period, he worked at the publishing house “8 Nëntori,” where he also contributed as a translator, bringing into Albanian important works from English, French, German, Italian, and Russian literature.

Lasgush Poradeci passed away on 12 November 1987, leaving behind a precious legacy in Albanian literature and culture.
