As part of the intensified efforts of the Korçë Border and Migration Directorate during the summer season, aimed at preventing and cracking down on cross-border crimes, a case of smuggling goods subject to excise duty has been detected.

Near the Qafë Thanë Border Crossing Point, officers of the Korçë Border and Migration Directorate stopped a vehicle driven by citizen I. M. During the inspection, a reserve tank containing a quantity of diesel was found, for which the driver had no accompanying documentation or invoice.

At the conclusion of procedural actions, the Crime Investigation Specialists of the Korçë Border and Migration Directorate arrested in flagrante delicto:

• I. M., 64 years old, resident of Pogradec, for the criminal offense of “Smuggling of goods subject to excise duty or with full or partial suspension from customs or excise obligations.”

  
  

Additionally:

• V. B., 56 years old, a customs officer at the Qafë Thanë BCP, also from Pogradec, is under criminal investigation for “Abuse of office,” as he is suspected of failing to perform a vehicle inspection on the car driven by I. M.

  
  

The seized fuel tank was taken as material evidence.The case has been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korçë for further legal proceedings.
