In Konispol, the situation has become worrying for mandarin producers.

While the plantations are full and the season has reached its peak, farmers report that their production is remaining in stock due to the lack of a market.

The situation has been worsened by the recent heavy floods that affected the Konispol plain, damaging a significant portion of the crops. Farmers say that the mandarins can no longer remain on the trees, as the optimal harvest time has arrived, and each passing day risks substantial economic losses.

According to them, the mandarins have undergone all necessary quality analyses, both domestically and abroad, and their quality is guaranteed. However, the lack of market access and high costs are making it impossible to sell the produce, putting a year’s worth of labor at risk.

Producers and collectors from Konispol are calling on the Ministry of Agriculture to urgently intervene with concrete measures to help them avoid bankruptcy and find a solution for marketing their production.

“We have invested all year. Now the mandarins are ready for the market, but the market is missing. We need help, otherwise all our effort will go to waste,” the farmers said.

Konispol remains one of the main suppliers of mandarins to the domestic market, so the current crisis risks affecting the entire supply chain.
