Marko Bitraku passed away at the age of 64 on October 8, 2015, after suffering for years from a serious illness.

Marko Bitraku had a 41-year career in Albanian theater and cinema, with dozens of roles that earned him significant acclaim.

Who Was Marko Bitraku

Marko Bitraku was born on January 15, 1951, in Lavdar, Opar, in the Korça district. After completing his higher education at the Institute of Arts (now the Academy of Arts) in 1974, he began working as a professional actor at the “Andon Zako Çajupi” Theatre in Korça.

On this theater’s stage, he would perform dozens of roles that made him well-known to art lovers. Notable performances include his role as Bomarshesë in the comedy “The Barber of Seville” and as Hajni in the drama “Frank V.” by Dürrenmatt. His final role was that of Jovan Bregu in the comedy “Jovan Bregu, Refugee” by Adelina Balashi.

In 2008, he also directed the monodrama “The White Veil” by Odise Plaku. In cinema, he portrayed over 13 roles, with his first appearance in the TV film “Flamur në Dallgë” in 1977.

He continued with other roles such as the Commander of the Gendarmerie in the film “Mësonjëtorja” in 1979, Selmani in “Asgjë Nuk Harrohet” in 1985, Rushka in “Njerëz në Rrymë,” and Sami in “I Dashur Armik” in 2004. Marko Bitraku’s last performance was in the film “Kronikë Provinciale” in 2009.
