A phone call received by the Health Inspectorate about tobacco use inside the Parliament premises prompted inspectors to rush to the parliamentary café.
The MPs, who had spent more than 12 hours in the chamber during a marathon session, wanted to use the café to enjoy their coffee with a cigarette, but were surprised to find Public Health inspectors there. They informed the leader of the PD parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, who raised the issue in Parliament.
“There are some inspectors checking the MPs’ workspaces. The Prosecutor’s Office cannot carry out inspections without the plenary session’s authorization. You are seriously violating the Constitution and acting irresponsibly with this gesture,” Bardhi said.
In response, Minister Sala confirmed that “it is the authorized inspectorate to conduct the checks.” Standing alongside Bardhi, the Speaker of Parliament, Niko Peleshi, added:
“Smoking should not be allowed. The form and procedure of the inspection – Mr. Bardhi is certainly right. For now, since it is not a major issue, the inspectors should leave.”
