New roads in Korçë, €3.37 million contract signed for four tourist villages

An investment of around €3.37 million aims to improve road access and develop adventure tourism in four villages with tourist potential in the Korçë region.

Enhancing the tourist offering of the natural areas in the southeast of the country will be achieved through infrastructure interventions on the roads connecting the villages of Dardhë, Arrëz, Sinec, and Nikolicë, part of the Municipality of Korçë. The project focuses on facilitating access and developing adventure tourism in one of the most visited tourist areas of the region.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has announced the signing of the contract for the implementation of the works, with a value of approximately €3.37 million. The winning company of the tender is “BE - IS” shpk, which will carry out the interventions in the four tourist villages.

Part of the national infrastructure and tourism program

The interventions on these road axes are part of the Albania Infrastructure and Tourism Project, which is financed by the European Union through technical assistance and investment grants with a total value of €40 million, as well as by a supplementary sovereign loan of €60 million provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to the Albanian government.

The project is implemented by the Albanian Development Fund and aims to increase accessibility, improve basic infrastructure, and strengthen the tourism potential of rural and mountainous areas.

Other contracts within the program

Within the same program, other similar contracts have previously been signed. One of them concerns improving accessibility and adventure tourism infrastructure in the Albanian Alps, with a value of €3.63 million.

In addition, a contract worth €1.52 million has been signed for the rehabilitation of the road segment from the Sop roundabout to the Darzezë Bridge.

Additional investments in energy

Alongside investments in road infrastructure, within the framework of this program the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has also launched tenders to improve the electricity network in the Albanian Alps, with the aim of increasing access to electricity and supporting the economic and tourism development of the area.
