Police / A 31-year-old man from Korça arrested for smuggling, customs officer under investigation

A 31-year-old man was caught red-handed smuggling a quantity of fuel from North Macedonia and was arrested during its transport.


A customs officer is being criminally prosecuted for abuse of duty.

The quantity of fuel was seized.


As part of the intensified work of the Local Directorate of Border and Migration Services in Korçë during the summer season, aimed at preventing and combating cross-border crimes, a case of smuggling goods subject to excise duty was uncovered.


On the road axis "Pustec-Bigëll," near the Gorica Border Crossing Point, Border Police services stopped a vehicle driven by citizen M. P. During the vehicle inspection, a spare tank containing a quantity of fuel was found, for which M. P. did not have any documents or invoices.


After completing procedural actions in this case, specialists from the Crime Investigation Unit of the Local Directorate of Border and Migration Korçë:


  • arrested in flagrante delicto citizen M. P., 31 years old, resident of Korçë, for the criminal offense of “Smuggling goods for which excise duty is paid or with full or partial suspension from customs or excise obligations”;

  • referred materials to the Prosecutor’s Office, where proceedings began for the criminal offense of "Abuse of Duty" against citizen E. F., 46 years old, resident of Rogozhinë, a customs officer at the Gorica Border Crossing Point, suspected of failing to properly inspect M. P.’s vehicle.


The procedural materials were forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korçë for further action.
