Following an investigation using special methods, the fifth phase of the operation codenamed “Relay” has been finalized.
A North Macedonian national who was transporting migrants aiming to illegally cross into EU countries has been arrested.
The organizer of this case has been identified; he is suspected of charging migrants €2,500 each, promising to transport them to Italy.
The vehicle used to transport the migrants, two mobile phones, and a sum of money were seized.
As a result of an investigation conducted with special methods, in coordination with the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office, aimed at cracking down on another case of illegal migrant transportation to EU countries in exchange for payment, specialists from the Section for the Investigation of Trafficking finalized the operation codenamed “Relay 5.”
During the operation, the North Macedonian citizen J. N., 41 years old, was arrested, while Albanian citizen M. A., 33 years old, a resident of Durrës, was declared wanted.
The 41-year-old was caught in flagrante on the “Kashar–Thumanë” road axis while transporting two migrants.
Meanwhile, the investigation suggests that the 33-year-old charged each migrant €2,500, promising to facilitate their illegal transportation to Italy.
Work is ongoing to apprehend M. A. In cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office, investigations are also continuing to identify and bring to criminal responsibility other individuals who may have been involved in this case.
The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
