Prime Minister Edi Rama has requested the dismissal of all administrative unit leaders across the country, setting a deadline of July 14, 2025, to complete this process.
This decision came after a meeting with mayors in Durrës, where Rama emphasized that this step is necessary to open opportunities for new candidates and to increase the efficiency of the administration.
Following this ultimatum, resignations have been registered in several municipalities. In Gjirokastër Municipality, the administrators of the units Gjirokastër, Cepo, Lazarat, Lunxheri, Antigone, Odrie, and Picar have submitted their resignations. Likewise, in Devoll Municipality, four administrative unit leaders have resigned, while in Kukës, 14 unit administrators and 2 deputy mayors have left their positions. These departures follow Rama’s call for a “clean-up” in local administration.
Prime Minister Rama stressed that this process is part of a broader reform aimed at improving administrative efficiency and ensuring that local structures better serve citizens. He has requested that all administrative unit leaders be dismissed to give opportunities to others who may be more capable of contributing to community development.
This process is expected to continue in other municipalities, with Rama emphasizing that there will be no tolerance for local structures that do not serve the citizens or are not engaged in community development.
