“Roots of Kolonja” / Refjan Maksuti, the nightingale of Kolonja

Mrs. Refjan Maksuti is one of the most prominent artists of Kolonja, who with her rare voice has amazed audiences at festivals and events both inside and outside the country. For nearly 30 years, together with other artists from Kolonja, she has been one of the most virtuosic performers of traditional Kolonja folk songs and iso-polyphony, keeping alive a valuable tradition of our cultural heritage.

Her distinctive vocal has made her stand out wherever she has performed, both as a lead singer and in supporting roles, often alongside artist Bylyre Jashari. As a master of performing elegies, Refjan Maksuti has always been highly appreciated by the public and connoisseurs of folk music.

Such artists, who continue to be an active part of Kolonja’s artistic life, should be preserved, supported, and valued, as they represent living treasures of our identity and tradition.
