The humor actor Florian Binaj is the independent candidate supported by the opposition for the upcoming partial local elections for the Municipality of Tirana.
The opposition leader, Sali Berisha, announced today that the Democratic Party will back Florian Binaj as its candidate for Tirana.
“I am here today to inform you and the citizens of Tirana, and all of Albania, that among the many excellent candidacies proposed directly by party leaders and personalities of the Democratic Party, which I hold in the highest regard, we have chosen to support an independent personality from various fields, from Albania and the diaspora. The Democratic Party, thanking with appreciation everyone who decided to submit their candidacy in service of Tirana’s citizens and the fight against the harm caused by Edi Rama, announces that the group mandated by the Democratic Party will present to our allies the recommendation to jointly support the well-known artist, the distinguished personality in the arts, the tireless advocate for Albanian citizens, the talented communicator, Mr. Florjan Binaj,” Berisha declared.
Asked how independent Binaj is now that he works at Syri Television, Berisha replied: “As independent as he was at ABC News, until Rama removed him…”
Yesterday, the humor actor Florjan Binaj officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Tirana.
In a public statement shared on social media, Binaj said his decision is a call for change and to restore citizens’ trust in local institutions.
He invited citizens, intellectuals, left and right-leaning individuals, as well as political parties that “truly want change,” to support his initiative. Binaj enters the race against the Socialist Party candidate, Ogerta Manastirliu, and Arlind Qori from the Bashkë Movement.
“Dear friends, citizens of our capital, who work hard and speak little, I have been an artist involved in public issues of national interest for 22 years. As a head of family, raised in a capital that has destroyed so much in the name of development, leaving very little untouched, I see the urgent need for a leader who is not a pawn of any party. Over the past 34 years, indirect methods have not improved our quality of life. We need a citizen leader elected by citizens, for citizens, because none of us can wait another 34 years.
Therefore, I have decided to announce my candidacy for Mayor of Tirana, giving my all to represent every citizen, party-affiliated or not, including the undecided electorate, equally. No city, especially the capital, should serve only the political side in power. I believe my contribution, even for a half-term, will bring hope, unity, and an improved quality of life to all citizens of the capital.
I hope all political parties that truly want change, regardless of colors, will join this initiative and trust in the citizens as citizens have trusted them. My goal is to collectively restore the municipality from its current state due to politics and return it to the citizens as a home for all of us. Let’s restore trust in the municipal institution, serving the community!
I invite all citizens and intellectuals, both left and right, to join us.
Thank you,” Binaj said.
