Meteorologist Lajda Porja, in a live broadcast on News24, provided the weather forecast for the months of July and August.

While high temperatures have persisted for several days, Porja warned that today marks the peak, with an expansion of the heatwave area where thermometers are expected to reach 41°C. While these temperatures were recorded yesterday in Berat, today they are expected in Shkodër, Koplik, and Elbasan as well.

In coastal areas, temperatures are expected to reach 37-38°C, with clear and hot weather conditions prevailing. On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, a slight temperature drop is expected, with maximums reaching around 38°C.

A significant change is forecasted for Wednesday, when a cooler air mass from Northern Europe will enter the Balkans. Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected in the north and central parts of the country, although with less intensity than in northern Europe. Temperatures are not expected to exceed 32-33°C during this cooler phase.

After four cooler days, starting from the following Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise again, reaching up to 38°C.

“August is forecasted to be hot, with many days expected to bring temperatures of 38-39°C. In the first half of August, the country will likely experience another heatwave, which we hope will not exceed 41°C,” Porja stated.

What makes this summer different, according to her, is that the heat will persist, with high temperatures lasting not just a few days, but potentially up to 12 consecutive days.

Cooler days will be very limited. It’s also important to note that temperatures are measured in the shade, while in direct sunlight, they can feel 4-5°C higher than the registered figures.
