Italy was hit today by severe weather, with strong wind and rain storms, as well as snowfall and low temperatures in various areas.
The regions most affected are central and northern Italy. In Emilia-Romagna, the Civil Protection Department has issued red and orange alerts for hydraulic and hydrogeological risks in the lowland areas between Bologna, Ferrara, and Ravenna.
The right tributaries of the Reno River, particularly the Idice, are under close monitoring, as flooding cannot be ruled out. Yellow alerts are in force in other areas of Emilia-Romagna and in Lazio, Puglia, Campania, and Tuscany.
Over the past six hours, winds with speeds of around 100 km/h have persisted along the coastline between Monfalcone, Trieste, and the adjacent sea.
Snow has been reported in western Liguria and the Tuscan Apennines, while strong snowfall winds are blowing in Trieste.
In Lombardy, a landslide affected Valdidentro in Upper Valtellina. Authorities are calling for extreme caution and for travel to be limited in the most exposed areas.
This morning there were significant disruptions at Florence Airport, with departing flights delayed or even canceled due to weather conditions, particularly strong winds that prevented takeoffs.
“Passengers from seven flights, hundreds and hundreds of people, filled the airport terminals waiting to learn their fate,” said Lorenzo Robin Frosini, a representative of the USB union at GH Toscana, one of the companies operating under contract at the airport.
Meanwhile, Liguria experienced heavy snowfall. Further worsening of weather conditions is expected in the southern part of the country, in the regions of Sicily and Puglia. In the Adriatic regions, very cloudy skies will prevail, with scattered rainfall, some of it of moderate intensity, and more persistent precipitation in the Marche and Abruzzo regions.
