Journalist Klodiana Lala has provided details about the investigations being conducted by SPAK into the Bankers Petroleum affair, after the Fier Prosecutor’s Office declared lack of jurisdiction.

Excerpt from the discussion:

Klodiana Lala: The Fier Prosecutor’s Office, after signing arrest warrants and declaring other shareholders wanted, declared lack of jurisdiction and forwarded the case to SPAK, after finding itself faced with two circumstances. The Fier Prosecutor’s Office claims it found elements that implicate high-ranking state officials up to ministerial level, and the second point is that all persons involved in this affair are suspected of having acted as part of a structured criminal group. The Special Prosecutor’s Office has accepted this criminal case and has registered the criminal offenses: creation of fraudulent schemes related to value-added tax, concealment of income, laundering of the proceeds of criminal offenses or criminal activity, abuse of office, failure to perform duties by tax authorities, passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or locally elected officials, structured criminal group, and commission of criminal offenses by a criminal organization and a structured criminal group.

In summary, among high-ranking officials two names emerge: former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, who is suspected of having favored the company Bankers. Mr. Ahmetaj is on the run and may possibly react to this case, but it is alleged that he maintained continuous contacts with Bankers’ administrators, and the issue concerns the granting of several plots of land for exploitation.

On the part of Bankers’ administrators and directors, there were requests for individuals to be employed in the ministry he was leading at the time the alleged criminal offense took place. Ahmetaj was a minister at that time.
