A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook residents of Naples, Italy, early this morning.

The tremors were felt at 5:51 a.m., as well as in nearby towns, while many people in their homes woke up frightened.

Italian media report that after the long and strong earthquake, which was clearly felt across most of Naples and reported by numerous users on social media, the municipalities of Pozzuoli, Bacoli, and Quarto decided to keep schools closed.

Several calls were received at the firefighters’ operations center from concerned residents seeking information about the situation, but so far, no one has requested assistance or reported damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

The mayor of Pozzuoli activated the Municipal Operations Center (COC), as did the mayor of Bacoli, Josi Gerardo Della Ragione, who wrote on Facebook: “It was strong. We just felt a powerful tremor in our area. I ordered the closure of all public and private schools in Bacoli. At the same time, all school buildings are being inspected. We are on the streets assessing any damage.”
