From January 1, 2026, all public administration employees in Albania will receive a new salary increase as part of the government’s annual indexing policy.

This initiative aims to protect employees’ purchasing power and ensure a fairer distribution of income within the public sector.

According to the official announcement, teachers will receive an additional 3,000 lek per month, while increases for other employee categories will range up to 10,000 lek, depending on their role and level of responsibility.

Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that this reform is part of a new approach to building a “fair, balanced, and economically aligned” salary system.

The main beneficiaries of the increases will be:

Support staff in public institutions (healthcare assistants, drivers, technicians, storekeepers, archivists, protocol officers), who will receive an extra 10,000 lek;

Administration specialists, who will get an additional 5,000 lek per month;

Teachers, with a 3,000 lek increase.

For the first time, work seniority will also be considered for healthcare system employees, and the salaries of doctors, nurses, and State Police officers will rise gradually according to a progressive scheme.

The government has planned to allocate approximately 100 million euros in the 2026 budget to cover the costs of this policy, which is expected to directly boost motivation and efficiency among public employees.

This reform follows several successive salary increases in the education and healthcare sectors in recent years, aiming to improve the quality of public services and enhance the dignity of the teaching profession.
