Teachers’ salaries to reach 1,250 euros by 2029 / Education program foresees pay raises across all levels

The average teacher’s salary is expected to reach 1,250 euros by 2029.

This is one of the goals of the government’s fourth term, as outlined in the Socialist cabinet’s education program.

“When these figures are mentioned today, they seem attractive, but we must not forget that this is the plan for the next four years, which means costs will change. 1,000 euros today do not have the same value as four years ago, and the same will apply four years from now. Salary increases should follow the index,” says Suela Koçibellinj, an activist.

“I think this will be an incentive to motivate teachers; by paying them well, they will be encouraged to contribute more,” adds Irsa Ruçi, an education expert.

Investments will focus on the digital transformation of schools, as well as the integration of artificial intelligence into teaching, as part of the plan to achieve “Albania in the EU by 2030.” The government also promises to pilot school meal programs in each regional capital, though experts emphasize that there should be no disparities between schools.

“Food is a necessity. This was one of the campaign promises, but now we need to see whether it will become an action plan. Will it be implemented nationwide within four years?” the activist adds.

Extending the hours students spend at school is another goal of the Socialist government, through a new after-school program.

“Parents will feel secure knowing their children are still within the school walls, under the supervision of familiar teachers. Recently, many private after-school centers have opened that are not regulated, raising questions about quality,” says Irisa Ruçi.

Additionally, strengthening vocational education is a priority of “Rama 4,” which aims to double the number of students enrolled, reaching 35% of the total student population. The investment is expected to reach 60 million euros for building vocational schools and installing technical laboratories.
