The situation worsens on the Përmet–Çarçovë axis, the road toward the southeast is blocked

The situation has worsened on the Përmet–Çarçovë road axis, where the section near the Çarçovë bridge is at a critical point.

As a result, residents’ movements have been isolated and vehicle traffic toward southeastern Albania has been interrupted.

Authorities report that the deterioration of conditions has made it impossible for vehicles to pass, creating major difficulties for local residents and travelers who use this route.

Relevant structures are on theer ground and are monitoring the situation, while drivers are urged to avoid this road segment until further notice.

In the Municipality of Gjirokastër, the presence of snow is reported in the villages of the mountainous Administrative Unit of Picar. At km 17 of the Gjirokastër–Tepelenë axis, the Drino River is approaching the road body, while the contracting company has concentrated machinery to reinforce the embankment. In the village of Tërbuq, the road axis has been reopened through the intervention of specialists and equipment from the Ministry of Defense, while in Dhoksat a drop in the water level is awaited in order to begin works to reopen the road. Meanwhile, on the road linking the villages of Krinë, Tranoshisht and Saraqinishtë, repairs have begun on a damaged bridge. Two geologist specialists have completed inspections of areas at risk of landslides.

In the Municipality of Dropull, the Glinë bridge remains problematic, having suffered new damage, while the Pogon–Dropull axis is blocked as a result of snowfall.

In the Municipality of Libohovë, the Zagori–Libohovë axis is blocked due to snow with a thickness of around 50 cm. In the Zagori Administrative Unit, the collapse of a house has been reported, while the elderly woman who lived there has been sheltered in the home of the village head.

In the Municipality of Memaliaj, the problem of erosion of agricultural land by the Vjosa River continues in the Qesarat Administrative Unit, opposite the village of the same name.

A serious situation is also present in the Municipality of Përmet, where the Përmet–Three Bridges Customs axis is blocked due to a crack in the road body at the entrance to the village of Petran. The Frashër Administrative Unit remains blocked and without electricity as a result of snowfall with a thickness of around 40 cm. The village of Buhal and the Frashër area continue to be isolated.

In the Municipality of Tepelenë, on the Tepelenë–Gjirokastër axis, in the area known as “Shkalla e Zezë”, traffic is allowed only in one lane, while the State Police are monitoring the situation. In the Kurvelesh Administrative Unit there is snow and ice present, and drivers are being guided by the responsible structures.

Regarding electricity supply, EDSO announces that following interventions in the field, electricity has been partially restored in some villages of the Municipality of Memaliaj. Several areas in the municipalities of Gjirokastër, Libohovë, Dropull and Përmet remain without electricity, while work to fully restore supply will continue throughout the day.

According to hydrological reporting, the level of the Vjosa River is 3.8 meters in Memaliaj and 4.3 meters in Përmet.

Local structures and emergency teams continue monitoring and interventions to normalize the situation and ensure the safety of citizens.
