Actor Jani Riza would have turned 83 today. Well-known and prominent in several roles in Albanian cinema, Riza passed away at the age of 47 in a car accident on October 24, 1988.Actor Jani Riza was born on January 17, 1941, in the village of Bulgarec in the Korça region. He completed his higher education in acting at “Aleksandër Moisiu” in 1964 and later became an actor at the “A. Z. Çajupi” theater in Korça. He played over 40 roles there, both leading and supporting, becoming one of the standout actors of the theater troupe. He had a strong voice, a well-built body, and a profound internalization of his roles.According to “Albanian Actors,” Jani Riza was distinguished for portraying characters from rural areas, people with strong will, emotional depth, and a distinct identity (dramas: Maro Mokra by Ruzhdi Pulaha, The Accused City by Teodor Laco), but sometimes also naive, simple (Dalipi in the drama Këneta), or cunning and crafty (Bato Gora’s Sons by R. Pulaha). In his interpretive approaches, he also took on characters struggling with doubts and strong oscillations in decision-making, causing spiritual turmoil, hidden sorrows, and conflicts (Halimi in The Invincible and Minush Jero’s, Delua in Facing Oneself by R. Pulaha).Jani Riza was a successful actor in the film industry, where he played in more than 15 roles. He stood out with his role as Xhezo in the film “Confrontation” (1976), but the character that showcased a high level of acting embodiment was that of Bunac Saliu in the TV film “The Eagles of the Great Season” (1981). With this role, he won the Medal at the 5th Albanian Film Festival. Actor Jani Riza passed away in a car accident.
