An Albanian married couple, who had just finished their shift at a bakery in Thessaloniki and were returning home, were dramatically hit by a truck on the road. The 47-year-old husband and his wife were seriously injured.
The severe accident occurred at 6:00 a.m. today on the Thessaloniki-Kavala road, near the area known as “Titan.” Both victims sustained multiple injuries and fractures and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The police are searching for the truck driver. The accident happened shortly after the couple’s vehicle reportedly stopped due to a suspected mechanical issue. As they moved back into the lane, they were struck by the truck, whose driver fled the scene.
“Once they got into the car, it seems there was a mechanical problem, so they had stopped on the side of Egnatia Road,” reported Protothema.
Both victims are currently at Papageorgiou Hospital, transported by EKAB paramedics. The husband is described by doctors as having multiple traumas, including injuries to his pelvis and legs. He is undergoing surgery with the possibility of further interventions but is not in immediate life-threatening condition.
His wife is also being treated in the same hospital as a precaution.
Speaking to Protothema, the husband’s brother-in-law said the couple had just finished work and were leaving for home when they discovered the car had broken down and went out to check it.
He emphasized that the police need to locate the truck driver, who dragged them and left them helpless on the asphalt. The Hellenic Police are gathering witness statements and reviewing security cameras in the area that may have recorded the truck and its license plate.
