Two-year-old falls into a fountain due to parental negligence, Albanian father arrested, mother under investigation, lied about the minor’s age

A serious incident occurred yesterday in Kalithea, Greece, when a 2-year-old girl with an Albanian father fell into a fountain and lost her life.

The event happened in the evening at the “Kyprou” square fountain after the child slipped out of her parents’ attention.

Passersby who noticed the situation immediately alerted a police team nearby, which rushed to the scene. Officers found the little girl in critical condition and transported her by patrol car to the “Aglaia Kyriakou” Pediatric Hospital.

After more than 40 minutes of medical efforts, the doctors managed to stabilize the 2-year-old, though she remains in critical condition under intensive care. Investigators were surprised that when doctors asked the parents about her age, they claimed she was around 5 years old, while it turned out the girl was only 2.

Authorities have arrested and are investigating the 25-year-old Albanian father of the child to clarify the circumstances in which the girl ended up in the fountain. The 23-year-old mother is also under investigation but remains free, staying by her daughter’s side in the hospital.

Both the father and the 23-year-old mother are expected to appear before the prosecutor on Monday on charges of negligence in supervising a minor.
