A serious incident shocked one of the most frequented areas of Athens last night, where a physical conflict between young people escalated into extreme violence. The incident took place in the well-known area of Hymettus Square, where five individuals were initially involved in a fierce brawl. The situation quickly spiraled out of control as more people joined the confrontation.
According to initial reports, the clash began for reasons that remain unclear and soon turned into a dangerous encounter involving knives and blunt objects. As a result, three individuals were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. Among the injured are a 30-year-old Albanian citizen and two Greek nationals aged 18 and 20.
Greek police responded immediately, arriving at the scene and intervening to neutralize the situation. Following their rapid intervention, officers arrested two young individuals involved in the incident: an 18-year-old Albanian and a 17-year-old Greek, who are currently in custody and expected to appear before the Prosecutor today.
Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the full circumstances of the event and to identify the other participants involved in the fight. The motives remain unclear, though the possibility of a rivalry between opposing groups is not being ruled out.
The incident has sparked widespread reaction in public opinion, not only due to the unprecedented violence in an urban area, but also because of the involvement of young people in such extreme behavior. Local authorities have called for calm and cooperation with investigators, while citizens are demanding greater safety in public spaces.
