Former Democratic Party parliamentary candidate Ilir Alimehmeti revealed that he met with Sali Berisha immediately after the much-discussed coffee with Ervin Salianji and several other PD members, an event the media dubbed the “coffee of the uprising.”

Alimehmeti said that during the meeting, he expressed his appreciation to Berisha for his decision to go out into the field and meet directly with Democratic Party supporters.

“Doctor Berisha is the chairman of the Democratic Party. I think this is a very good moment for him as well, to integrate this energy within the party, because we need it; otherwise, we would have less support,” Alimehmeti stated.

He emphasized that his relationship with Berisha is based on a “common denominator,” underlining that he would not support him if they did not share the same political beliefs.

“I met Berisha recently. I wouldn’t say he is my leader and that I support him if we had different opinions. I wouldn’t be in that political force otherwise; I wouldn’t go there on his worst day,” he said.

Regarding the content of the meeting, Alimehmeti added: “In the meeting, I expressed to Berisha my appreciation for going out into the field. It hadn’t even started yet. It’s very good that he’s going out to hear the people himself. The meeting with Berisha was after the coffee.”
