Who are the three academics from Korçë who worked on the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language?

The Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language is now online for users.

The Academy of Sciences of Albania, with decision no. 1, dated 06.01.2026, “On the opening of the online platform of the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language,” decided to make the online platform of the “Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language” accessible to the public, with the domain fjalori.online, providing free access to all users.

From the day of its opening, for a nine-week period, opinions, suggestions, and additions will be collected to improve the Dictionary. After this period, the Dictionary’s Editorial Board and the Technical Coordinator, within a three-month timeframe, will incorporate all the collected suggestions.

A large team of compilers, editors, and proofreaders worked on the “Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language,” under the leadership of Academician Jani Thomai as chief editor and two deputy chief editors, Academician Valter Memishaj and Prof. Dr. Shezai Rrokaj.

The final step of this major project will be the publication of the work in ten volumes next year.

In this national scientific endeavor, three academics from Korçë also contributed as part of the working team for the dictionary:

Prof. Dr. Ali Jashari, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Manjola Zaçellari, and Dr. Olger Brame.

Prof. Dr. Ali Jashari

Prof. Dr. Ali Jashari served as an editor and compiler for the “Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language.” In his assignment, he worked on the letter B, as well as partially on the letter ZH, while also contributing to the dictionary’s phraseological corpus. An important part of his work also involved the appendix of unassimilated foreign expressions, enriching the dictionary with material of significant scientific and practical value.

Prof. Assoc. Dr. Manjola Zaçellari

Prof. Assoc. Dr. Manjola Zaçellari contributed as a compiler of lexical entries, being responsible for the letters I, X, XH, and Y, and co-compiling the acronyms. In parallel, she was part of the Dictionary’s Technical-Scientific Group, participating in the scientific and technical processing of the material. She also contributed to the linguistic review phases and the adaptation of the dictionary for the digital platform.

Dr. Olger Brame

Dr. Olger Brame worked on the letter D and partially on the letter Z, directly contributing to the lexical processing of the dictionary. He was also part of the Linguistic and Technical Proofreaders Group, participating in the scientific, linguistic, and technical verification of the material, as well as in preparing the dictionary for online publication.

Through this specialized contribution, the three academics from Korçë are part of a major national project, now available to the public on the platform fjalori.online, making the “Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language” a fundamental tool for researchers, teachers, students, and all users of the Albanian language.
