Woman gives public testimony: How he killed her husband in front of the children just because their daughter touched the horse

Journalist Blendi Fevziu made public a message he received from Vjola Haxhia, the wife of Keli Hoxha, who was killed on Tuesday in Berat.

"Hello Mr. Fevziu, I am Vjola Haxhia, the wife of Keli Hoxha, who was killed on Tuesday in Berat.

First, I want to sincerely thank you for covering the case and for the time you dedicated to our tragedy. My family and I have lived in the United Kingdom for 14 years. We had come to Albania for vacation, and one of our destinations was a visit to the Berat Castle to teach our children more about Albanian history. We visited the castle with my family and my husband’s mother. Somewhere near the center of the castle, there was a horse tied to a post, which my 8-year-old daughter, Sevia, saw. She asked her father: ‘Can I touch the horse?’

I emphasize that at that moment, the horse was alone, without its owner present. Keli and our daughter approached the horse to pet it. At that moment, the horse’s owner appeared, shouting that they should not touch the horse because it gets agitated. My husband told him not to worry, explaining that he grew up in a village with horses and knows how to handle them. The owner then started arguing with my husband in a very vulgar language. My husband replied that he was of his grandfather’s age and refused to continue the argument.

I STRESS that during these moments, Keli was holding our daughter by hand. He turned his back and was about to leave. At that moment, the man spat on my husband’s back three times and insulted our family. My husband turned and defended himself, but in a second, the man turned to me and, striking me in the stomach, said: ‘Call an ambulance, he stabbed me,’ and Keli collapsed, covered in blood.

There were over 100 tourists present who witnessed the event and can confirm it. I have read in some media reports claiming that the murder happened because a payment was not made. I strongly reject such claims because no photo was taken. Why don’t the media or the state care about my children? They are in shock. They could have been harmed or even stabbed at that moment. My children are traumatized, they cannot sleep, they do not eat, and they do not speak."
