So far, around 30,000 taxpayers have completed the Annual Individual Income Declaration. The final deadline is March 31, and the Tax Administration expects that 200,000 individuals will submit the declaration.
This increase is due to the first-time application of tax deductions for dependent children and education expenses.
The possibility of reimbursement is also encouraging citizens without children to voluntarily declare their income, in order to check whether they may have a tax credit surplus.
This year, individuals with annual income above 1.2 million lekë are entitled to benefit from deductions based on the number of dependent children. Meanwhile, individuals with income below 1.2 million lekë are entitled not only to deductions for dependent children but also to tax deductions for education expenses.
The Tax Administration states that last year the declaration was completed by 140,000 individuals. This year, in order to avoid penalties, the document must be completed by individuals who earn over 100,000 lekë per month, have been employed by two employers for at least one month, or have earned more than 50,000 lekë without tax being withheld.
The latter category typically includes individuals who have earned income from monthly or daily rental of their homes.
