An unusual case has been reported from Karbunara e Vogël in Lushnja, where a flock of 80 sheep and goats was massacred during the night by wolves.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on September 21, when a wolf entered the pen and attacked the flock.

According to the shepherd, Namik Sinani, 40 animals were eaten and killed by the wild animal, while the rest were left injured, some on the road and others inside the pen.

Shaken by the incident, the shepherd is asking the state for help to compensate for the loss of the flock, stressing that only part of the livestock was registered, while the others were recent additions.

“I have no income at all, we lived only off them. All I have left is this staff (stick) and the dog—and I might as well kill it too, since it didn’t protect the flock at all,” the farmer said.

Residents of the area expressed fear, as this is not the first such case.

In just the last two weeks, wolves have also attacked other animals, even entering inhabited areas.

The Zgjanë Forest, near the village, has become a shelter for wolves, whose numbers, according to residents, have increased significantly in recent years.

The Lushnja police and the veterinary service have been notified about the incident.

Authorities are expected to carry out the burial of the dead livestock and disinfect the area to prevent the spread of any infection.
