Bad weather has hit New Jersey, where the Brazil–Morocco World Cup 2026 Group 3 match is scheduled to take place.

The Brazilian newspaper *O Globo* reports that: “If Brazil is expected to face difficulties against Morocco in the World Cup 2026 opener, an additional opponent has begun to show signs it could enter the field even before the opening whistle. A few hours before the match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, heavy rain hit areas near the stadium that will host the Group 3 clash.

The phenomenon has raised a concern that has accompanied the organization of the tournament even before it began. In the United States, protocols for outdoor sporting events are particularly strict when there is a risk of lightning. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) rules, if lightning is detected within eight miles (12.8 km) of a stadium, the match must be suspended.

All players must leave the field and fans must seek shelter indoors. A mandatory 30-minute countdown is then started. Each time lightning strikes nearby, the countdown resets. After the first half break, fans can return to their seats and players warm up briefly. It should be noted that MetLife Stadium, for this event, is also referred to as the New York/New Jersey Stadium.”
