Claudia Cardinale, the icon of Italian and international cinema, has passed away at the age of 87. She died surrounded by her children in Nemours, in the Paris region, where she had lived for years.

“She leaves us the legacy of a free and inspired woman, both in her journey as a woman and as an artist,” said her agent Laurent Savry.

Thanks to her beauty combined with talent, she became a muse for the most famous directors. Born on April 15, 1938, in Tunisia to Sicilian parents who had emigrated during the British protectorate, Claudia Cardinale starred in unforgettable films directed by great masters from Luchino Visconti, where she played the character of Angelica, with her immortal dance scene alongside Alain Delon, to Federico Fellini and Sergio Leone.

Over her long career, which began in the mid-1950s and spanned more than sixty years, she played across a wide range of genres from Italian comedies to westerns, from dramas to historical epics, and even Hollywood-style productions occasionally working in music, theatre, and television. She appeared in over 150 films, some of which are considered milestones of auteur cinema.
