Fire near Gërmenj Park remains active, wind and difficult terrain worsen the situation

The wildfire near the Gërmenj Natural Park in Korçë remains active. The flames have spread further due to strong winds, moving toward Greek territory. Emergency teams are on the ground, continuing their work to keep the situation under control and monitor it in order to prevent further spread.

Currently, around 40 firefighters and 9 vehicles are deployed, working intensively to manage the difficult situation. Another major challenge is the unsuitable and remote terrain, as the affected area is located about two hours away from the starting point of the firefighting vehicles.

To facilitate access and intervention, the Kolonjë municipality service has deployed three vehicles to open forest roads, enabling firefighters to get closer to the fire area.

Additionally, there is a risk of unexploded munitions in the area, so operations on the ground are being carried out with great caution and heightened control to ensure the safety of both workers and nearby residents.

The situation continues to be closely monitored, while teams remain committed to preventing the further spread of the fire and protecting the Gërmenj natural area.
