Failure of the National Food Authority to protect food safety is hitting consumers’ health.

During September, imported peaches from Greece were sold in Albania containing residues of the pesticide “Phosmet” above the allowed limit, posing a risk to human health.

This pesticide can cause rapid or irregular heartbeats and changes in blood pressure. It is also associated with problems in the respiratory, nervous, and digestive systems.

Official sources for “Ora News” report that 7,324 kg of peaches were imported from Greece. After almost 7,300 kg were sold, AKU inspectors intervened and blocked only 28 kg of peaches containing the dangerous pesticide.

While food safety remains critically compromised, AKU has refused to be transparent with the media and consumers, hiding the name of the company that imported the product that endangered citizens’ lives.

Repeatedly, AKU acts in favor of private companies and does not answer the specific question:

“Which entity brought this product into our country?”
