The mother of the 2-year-old Albanian boy who was fatally attacked by a pit bull in Greece has described how her child lost his life within seconds, while he was petting the dog in the garden in front of their home.

Two-year-old Leon Dulia was mauled to death shortly after returning from the market with his mother and father. His mother said everything happened “in less than 30 seconds” and blamed the noises coming from hunters in the forest whistles and gunshots which frightened the pit bull.

The tragedy occurred on the Greek island of Zakynthos, where the family had been living for several years after moving there from Andover, Hampshire.

“Leon was every mother’s dream, the sweetest child you could imagine. Even people who don’t usually like children adored Leon. He was loving, special, and he loved everyone his father, me, and the rest of the family. He was a beautiful little boy, always smiling, full of joy.

He adored our animals, the cats, the horses, the dogs, and the pit bull had never been a problem until that tragic day,” the mother told the Daily Mail.

Robbie explained that the dog had been rescued by her husband and was kept tied with a 10-meter chain in the garden, near the forest where the hunting was taking place.

“You could hear the whistling, there were gunshot noises. I believe this is what frightened the dog,” she said.

She recounted that the moment they entered the house to put away the groceries, Leon went outside to the dog, and everything happened instantly.

“We found him lying on the ground. It looked as if he had been bitten only once. The ambulance took Leon and they rushed, but I believe it was already too late. The doctors confirmed his death as soon as we arrived,” the mother said.

She added that the pit bull had never shown any signs of danger.

“If I had known, I would never have allowed Leon to play with the pit bull. He had been fed, he had water, and he had never shown aggression. When my husband found him, the dog was very weak; we fed him and tamed him,” she added.

Robbie denied reports claiming that she and her husband were being charged with negligent homicide.

“We have given statements, but the police have not informed us of any criminal procedures. We explained that the dog was tied and cared for,” said the mother of the 2-year-old.

She remembers that everything happened in an instant.

“The first thing we heard was our daughter coming in and saying: ‘The pit bull has bitten Leon.’ When we went outside, Leon wasn’t moving. It was only one bite, but you never imagine that one bite can take a life,” she said, as reported by TCh.
