After two contributors to Albania’s public broadcaster criticized payment delays and lack of information, several others also confirmed to BIRN that they are facing the same problem.
Eni Vasili, who has been the new director of ART since April 9, admitted to BIRN that there is a “catastrophic situation of debts and obligations.”
She said that the new management “is doing its best to handle the situation.”
“I want to thank all journalists, authors, and moderators of projects from March to June 2025 for their understanding regarding the payment delays at ART. Of course, it is not their fault that they were promised projects which could not be paid for, but that does not make the new management responsible, as it has been confronted with a catastrophic situation of debts and obligations and is trying to do its best to manage it,” Vasili told BIRN.
She added that currently there is a “prioritization of payments,” since important obligations are owed to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in connection with the Eurovision festival.
