Heavy rainfall from November last year until now has caused not only flooding in Pogradec, but also significant damage to infrastructure.
The most problematic situation was along the Vërdova River, where large water flows destroyed retaining walls and bridges used by residents for crossing.
Not only that, but the water also damaged part of the Pogradec ring road, which, together with the bridges over the river, remains unrepaired.
Residents say this is not the first time the river has caused such damage. They add that investment is needed once and for all in the river’s embankment to prevent further damage to people living along it, A2 CNN reports.
The Municipality of Pogradec states that it has sent two projects to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development regarding the Vërdova and Rrëmenj rivers, and that until funding is secured, intervention will be carried out through an emergency fund to prevent further damage to the road.
Meanwhile, it is said that the project, in addition to the embankment, also foresees the demolition of all private bridges that become obstacles during heavy rainfall.
