According to local media reports, the tremors were recorded at 5:53 a.m. in Reggio Calabria.
The quake is said to have had a magnitude of 5.1 and was also felt in other areas, including parts of Sicily and Calabria, Klankosova.tv reports.
The epicenter, according to the website of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, was located in the sea near the Ionian coast at a depth of 65 kilometers, ANSA writes.
No material damage has been reported following the 5.1-magnitude earthquake, which struck more than 20 kilometers off the Ionian coast of Calabria.
