The closure of the Librazhd–Përrenjas road has also created difficulties for medical emergencies traveling from the Regional Hospital of Korçë to Tirana.
Ambulances, like smaller vehicles, are forced to follow the alternative route Maliq–Lozhan–Moglicë–Gramsh, a narrow road with sharp turns and multiple problem areas along this segment.
Due to the conditions of this route, ambulance drivers have to reduce speed, which prolongs transport times for patients needing urgent intervention or more specialized treatment in the capital.
According to hospital sources, on average two ambulances depart daily from Korçë to Tirana for cases requiring more specialized care.
Every minute is crucial in these situations, but the forced detour and longer route are creating stress and uncertainty for patients.
The difficult road and longer travel time compared to the usual route also increase anxiety for patients’ families, especially in urgent cases.
Under these conditions, it is clear that “road infrastructure is directly affecting the healthcare chain and the lives of patients.”
