Student checks at the door, police draft security plan, venues near schools to be close

Every student suspected of carrying illegal items into school will be checked at the entrance gate by the school guard and the security officer. This is one of the measures undertaken by the State Police to guarantee order and student safety.

The plan of measures will start being implemented on Monday, with the beginning of the new school year. Details were made public in a statement to the media by the Director of Public Order, Agron Çeli.

“Sharing and exchanging information with the teaching staff and with school security officers regarding students who may carry illegal items, and based on this, conducting checks at the entrance gates by the school guards and security officers, in the presence of teachers and under the supervision of the police officer,” said Director of Public Order, Agron Çeli.

Another point of the safety package is the enforcement of a perimeter, especially for venues near schools.

“In cooperation with the State Health Inspectorate, the National Food Authority, and local government, work will be carried out to close or remove commercial premises and street vendors selling alcoholic beverages and expired food products near schools, which often serve as gathering points for individuals with criminal records, alcohol and drug users, and as sources of risk for disturbing public order or committing violent acts against teachers and students,” he added.

Police officials guaranteed that from the beginning of the academic year until its end, there will be an increased presence of officers in schools to reassure students and their parents. Meanwhile, in schools located near main roads, the Traffic Police will be on standby and will conduct continuous checks on drivers transporting students, including alcohol tests, technical inspections of vehicles, and enforcement of transport regulations.
