Starting from January 2026, teachers’ salaries will increase by 3,000 lek per month, as part of the government’s new policy on annual indexation of public-sector wages. The reform aims to create a fairer pay system and motivate teachers to help improve the quality of education.

The Albanian government has announced a new salary policy that will come into force on January 1, 2026, which provides for the yearly indexation of wages for public administration employees at both central and local levels.

Prime Minister Edi Rama described this as a reform designed “to ensure fairness and balance in the salary system,” in line with the rising cost of living and the country’s minimum wage.

According to the new policy, teachers will benefit from a 3,000-lek monthly increase, while other categories within the state administration will receive raises of up to 10,000 lek per month.

“10,600 service employees—cleaners, drivers, technicians, protocol staff, archivists, warehouse workers—will benefit from a 10,000-lek increase linked to the rise of the minimum wage. Public administration specialists will receive a 5,000-lek raise, while teachers will receive 3,000 lek per month,” Rama stated.

Within the same framework, the evaluation of years of service has also been introduced, for the first time applying to the healthcare system. Salaries for doctors, nurses, and State Police employees will also see progressive increases.

The Prime Minister announced that the government will add nearly 100 million euros to the 2026 state budget to implement this policy, which aims to create a fairer and more harmonized salary system aligned with the country’s economic reality.

This decision follows several rounds of salary increases carried out in recent years in the education sector, aimed at motivating teachers and improving the quality of teaching in public schools.
