The monthly pension increase comes into effect today. Here’s how much beneficiaries will receive according to their categories

Starting this year, the government’s decision to increase pensions through monthly bonuses, as previously announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama, comes into effect. The increase will be applied monthly according to different categories of pensioners.

City pensioners will receive an additional 1,800 lekë per month, urban partial pensions will get 800 lekë/month, rural pensions 1,000 lekë/month, family pensions 700 lekë/month, and disability pensions 600 lekë/month.

This new scheme, previously unknown, aims to fulfill the government’s commitment to raise the minimum pension in the country to 20,000 lekë and the average city pension to 40,000 lekë.

By 2029, the average city pension is expected to reach 40,000 lekë per month. For rural contributory pensions, an individual currently receiving 11,000 lekë will have a monthly pension of 18,000 lekë after four years.

Currently, about 730,000 individuals benefit from the social contribution scheme, with the number increasing by 15,000 pensioners each year. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation announced that during 2026, the pension system is expected to be reformed to improve sustainability and benefits.
