In a personal account about her life, Jonida Shehu spoke on “S’e Luan Topi” about the pain of losing her parents.

“I was 23 years old when I lost my father. I had just finished my studies and started working. My dad had been diagnosed with cancer, but we never thought he would pass away.

We believed everything would return to normal. Everything turned upside down and went against what I had imagined. It took many years for things to fall back into place. Later, my sister lived in Prishtina, my brother in the United States, and I stayed alone with my mother,” she says about losing her father.

But a few years later, she would also lose her mother, a great pain for the journalist.

“I haven’t fully processed my father’s death… my mother’s death made me feel relieved from the weight of death and gave me a different understanding of it, because I had lived every day of my life with the fear of death. With the fear of ‘what will happen when my mother is no longer here?’ When I lost my mom, the thing I suffered most was when I finished work, because she was the first person I would call. There were moments when I missed her presence so much that I called her phone and texted her. I wrote that I missed her, that I was okay…,” she recounts through tears.
