A serious incident has shaken the quiet community of Cranford, New Jersey, where two teenage girls lost their lives following an incident that occurred on Monday afternoon. A 17-year-old from Garwood was arrested near the scene and is suspected of being responsible for the fatal crash.

According to U.S. media, neighbors had noticed the frequent presence of the teenager outside one of the victims’ homes in recent months, raising suspicions of ongoing stalking. Relatives and friends of the girls said that they knew the suspect and had previously reported repeated harassment, which had led to restraining orders being issued against him.

The crash occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Burnside Avenue, a residential street with a 40 km/h (25 mph) speed limit. According to police, a 2021 Jeep Compass struck the two girls and immediately fled the scene without stopping.

Both minors were transported to a local hospital in critical condition but did not survive their injuries. News of their deaths has deeply affected the residents of Cranford, a small and close-knit community.

Since that evening, dozens of citizens have gathered at the scene, placing flowers and candles in memory of the girls. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, while authorities have urged the public to remain patient and show solidarity with the affected families.
