According to a recent report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the year 2025 is expected to rank among the three hottest years ever recorded, continuing the alarming trend of global warming.

WMO experts emphasize that the period 2015–2025 includes all 11 of the hottest years documented since measurements began more than 176 years ago. The record heat, they note, is mainly caused by high concentrations of greenhouse gases and the accumulation of heat in the oceans, leading to the accelerated melting of ice and glaciers.

The report warns that extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and storms are having profound social and economic impacts worldwide. Although since 2015 the number of global Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems (MHEWS) has doubled, around 40% of countries still lack a functioning system.

WMO notes that this report has been prepared ahead of the international COP30 conference, aiming to encourage countries to strengthen measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience to climate change.

According to experts, climate services are essential to saving lives and protecting economies from the effects of rising global temperatures. Without immediate action, the WMO warns, the coming years could be even hotter than 2025.
