Economics expert Arben Malaj has today shared a reaction directed at former MP Myslim Murrizi.

Through a post on social media, Malaj questioned Murrizi on why he did not resign when investigations began into the oil refineries in Ballsh, at a time when the Democratic Party (DP) was in power and ordered tax inspectors to be removed from the Deep Oil Processing Plant.

Malaj reminded Murrizi that, as an MP in those years, he had every opportunity to react appropriately but instead chose to play the role of a hero.

“I can’t understand why Myslym is being so heroic. Why so dismissive toward everyone else, the ‘media hero’ former colleague Myslym? We have spoken, Myslym. We have spoken in parliament, we have spoken in the media, we have appealed for SPAC to investigate with priority the accelerated bankruptcy of the Deep Oil Processing Plant.

Why didn’t you resign, Myslym, when the tax authorities during the DP government began a deep investigation into the oil refineries and your party’s police blocked and expelled the tax inspectors?”

Your former Minister of Finance ordered the investigations to be stopped? Why didn’t you protest that day? Why didn’t you make an open appeal to your Minister of Finance and your Prime Minister?

Yes, we have spoken, but never in the language of “street talk,” rather with deeply professional arguments not self-personalizing as a hero.

You were an MP after 2005, with every legal right and possibility not only to speak but also to investigate every theft and expose the “dark” politicians who deeply dipped their hands into the black funds of the Deep Oil Processing Plant (UPTHN) in Ballsh.

I have nothing personal, nor am I doing this to protect anyone, because fortunately, the thieves and the greedy will increasingly be exposed to the public.

I am proud that even after 20 years, and despite the endless slanders of the DP to which you never reacted, even though they based their political fight solely on slander against political opponents and even after the political investigations by the former DP Finance Minister after 2005, you could not find a single case where I had abused my position, let alone enriched my brothers, sisters, and relatives, who are well-educated and run law or consultancy offices.

Dear Murrizi, calmer, with less vulgarity, with more logical arguments, and with greater moral and legal persistence.

Public credibility is not gained by self-declaring as “the most honest person of the 21st century,” but from concrete achievements in the fight against corruption and state capture, which began after the DP returned to power in 2005 and deepened and expanded even to threatening levels for the economy and democracy by some greedy “Renaissance” members and insatiable oligarchs, both working hand-in-hand for economic and political power.

Take an accusation to the very end, Murriz investigate with outside experts, win the fight even in a single case.

That will be a political and public victory, one that will also help you achieve victories ethically,” wrote Malaj.
