An alarming statement has come from Genc Gjokutaj, the personal lawyer of opposition leader Sali Berisha, who posted a strong message on social media, publicly threatening Democratic Party deputies who, according to him, are preparing to “destroy” both the party and Berisha himself.
In unusually aggressive language for a legal representative, Gjokutaj warns that the confrontation with these deputies whom he calls “repentant and paid by Rama & Co” will no longer remain virtual. He clearly writes that “the battle with them today is harsher, as it will be fought physically, not online like yesterday.”
His post comes at a tense moment within the Democratic Party, amid efforts by some factions to reform the party or distance it from Sali Berisha’s leadership. Berisha is currently under SPAK’s protective measures and is under investigation for high-level corruption.
Gjokutaj continues with emotional and provocative tones:
“We cannot remove our savior, only the attackers against him! Be they men, women, gay, or lesbian! The fight is declared! Go ahead!”
These statements, which include discriminatory and unacceptable language toward the LGBTQ + community, have sparked strong reactions on social media, while there has been no official response yet from the Democratic Party or the deputies indirectly mentioned by Gjokutaj.
The lawyer’s post is seen as an open escalation of the internal conflict within the Democratic Party, where the clash between “Berisha supporters” and the group considered closer to Basha’s official line—or the factions seeking reorganization—is shifting from political rhetoric to calls for violent confrontation.
This dangerous rhetoric raises concerns about the safety of deputies, the integrity of institutions, and political stability in the country, while the justice system and law enforcement institutions are expected to assess whether such statements constitute incitement to violence or hate speech.
