The phone rings five times… Viktor doesn’t answer! I send him a message. He replies immediately.
“Let’s talk about everything, just not about an interview. Okay?”
“What about the weather?” I tell him… After a week, when the interview had also been completed and he, being very meticulous, brings it to me handwritten (because this time even the computer had been capricious like him), he says almost in a commanding tone, with his smile that doesn’t let you fully understand whether it’s true, half-true, casual, or ironic, “this is the last interview I’m giving you!”
In fact, he is not at all pessimistic about the passing of time. On the contrary! He lives life in an admirable way. With strict discipline, he eats as a vegetarian, trains, walks a lot, doesn’t use the car in the city, swims, fishes, and has had such a busy period that it’s unbelievable.
Physically you look in very good shape, what keeps you that way?
PASSION!
Passion for art?
For art, of course…
Does death frighten you?
Death does not worry me, but rather the condition I will be in when it approaches me. I do not want it to find me lying down or suffering. You will say that this is not in my hands. That’s correct! That’s why I do what is in my power.
I eat as a vegetarian, I train, or walk a lot (I use the car only when I leave the city), I swim, I go fishing.
In short; I feel beauty, I see it and live it in every moment, in nature or wherever it may be!
Do you believe in God? Are you afraid of Him?
I grew up and was educated in a time when God had been excluded from art, life and the vocabulary of communication. Nevertheless, I neither insult Him nor place on Him the responsibility for all my shortcomings or the unpleasant events in life, which I have not lacked and have not been few. On the contrary, for every success or good news, the first phrase I say is “Glory to God!”
At this moment are you happy?
Happy?! I would rather say fulfilled, or no, forgive me, the most accurate expression is “I am well.”
How do you feel at the end of every performance?
People rush to congratulate me and I greet them with a smile to show that I am satisfied. In truth, I am doubtful and a little sad about what I have done.
Is that because you believe you could have done it better?
I don’t know exactly, perhaps because my mind deceives me into thinking I could have done it better.
And at the end of this interview?
Relieved, because I said things as I think them. Thank you!
